Alex Cora won't be managing the Philadelphia Phillies next season.
President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski spoke with Cora about the job, but the former Boston Red Sox skipper said he's taking the 2027 season off, an anonymous Phillies executive told USA Today's Bob Nightengale.
Cora also reportedly turned down the Phillies in April because he wanted to spend the summer with his family. The 50-year-old was fired by the Red Sox on April 25.
The 2018 World Series-winning manager is still owed roughly $7.25 million next year from his Red Sox contract.
Don Mattingly's future as Philadelphia's interim manager is murky. He led the team to a 79-55 record after taking over for Rob Thomson in late April. However, the club disappointed again in the playoffs, getting bounced in the wild-card series by the Atlanta Braves.
