Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani will be activated from the 15-day injured list and return to the lineup Wednesday against the San Diego Padres, manager Dave Roberts told ESPN's Alden Gonzalez.
Ohtani was dealing with lingering soreness in his right biceps and left knee before being sidelined. He struggled to a .186 batting average over his final 15 games before going on the IL.
Since Ohtani is a two-way player, he had to be deactivated for 15 days instead of 10 days like a regular position player would.
When healthy this season, Ohtani has played at his typical MVP caliber. The 32-year-old is hitting .277 on the season with 30 home runs and a .902 OPS. He's also managed a 1.79 ERA across 85.2 innings pitched.
Ohtani hasn't taken the mound since July 3.
The Dodgers are scheduled to begin a three-game series with the Padres on Tuesday, then they'll finish their regular season with a set against the San Francisco Giants.
Los Angeles recently clinched its fifth consecutive NL West title and 13th in the past 14 seasons. The Dodgers will look to three-peat as World Series champions when the playoffs begin.
