The fireworks were out at Wrigley Field on Monday, as the Chicago Cubs hit nine home runs in a 17-3 rout of the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Cubs became the fifth team in MLB history to hit nine homers in a game. They tied the National League record for most home runs in a game, set by the Cincinnati Reds on Sept. 4, 1999.
Chicago also joins the New York Yankees, who blasted nine round-trippers in two games last year, and the Toronto Blue Jays, who hit an MLB-record 10 home runs on Sept. 14, 1987.
Alex Bregman blasted the Cubs' ninth homer, and his third of the game, off Brewers position player Andrew Vaughn in the eighth inning.

Bregman's eighth-inning blast was also historic on a personal level, as it gave him a second three-homer game in August. He's the seventh player to record multiple three-homer games in a calendar month, and the first since Adam Duvall in September 2020, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com. Cubs icon Sammy Sosa also did it back in August 2001.
Bregman, a three-time All-Star, is the first Cub to record multiple three-homer games in a year since Aramis Ramírez in 2004, per MLB.
Tyrone Taylor, Nico Hoerner, Seiya Suzuki, Carson Kelly, Matt Shaw, and Michael Conforto also homered for the Cubs in Monday's lopsided victory. Five were surrendered by Brewers starter Kyle Harrison, who was charged with nine runs on 10 hits over 3 2/3 innings.
Vaughn gave up three round-trippers and allowed seven runs overall during his two innings of mop-up duty. DL Hall allowed Kelly's solo shot in the seventh.
The power surge concluded a dominant month for the Cubs, who hit 62 home runs in August to set a new NL record for homers by a team in a calendar month, according to Langs.
