The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired right-hander Jameson Taillon and cash considerations from the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named later or cash considerations, the teams announced Sunday.
Taillon was designated for assignment Monday after authoring a 5.92 ERA and 6.73 FIP in 15 starts this season. The 34-year-old was in the final year of a four-year, $68-million contract when he was let go by the Cubs.
The Canadian pitcher owns a 3.99 career ERA across 10 seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, and Cubs.
He pitched for Canada at the World Baseball Classic in 2013 and 2026.
Taillon's addition comes amid reported trade rumors involving Blue Jays pitchers Kevin Gausman, Shane Bieber, Jeff Hoffman, and Max Scherzer.
