Cincinnati Reds ace Hunter Greene could have a new home before Monday's trade deadline.
There's a "50-50" chance Greene is dealt this week, a source told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
The Reds are receiving significant interest in the 2024 All-Star, a source told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Cincinnati isn't eager to move Greene, but a deal involving the right-hander might be the club's best chance to land a significant return outside of trading star shortstop Elly De La Cruz, according to Rosenthal.
Greene is owed $15 million in 2027 and $16 million in 2028. The 26-year-old also has a $21-million club option for 2029.
All of the Reds' other potential trade chips (Brady Singer, Tyler Stephenson, Nathaniel Lowe, Eugenio Suárez, Brock Burke) are pending free agents.
Greene owns a 7.06 ERA with 3.20 FIP and 29 strikeouts over 21 2/3 innings (four starts) this season after returning from arthroscopic elbow surgery. However, he posted a 2.76 ERA with 10.5 K/9 and 6.6 fWAR over 258 innings (45 starts) across 2024 and 2025.
The Reds are currently last in the NL Central, sitting 16.5 games behind the division-leading Milwaukee Brewers and six games out of the NL's final wild-card spot.
