The Washington Nationals are exploring a possible extension for left-hander and trade candidate Foster Griffin, reports ESPN's Buster Olney.
Griffin is having a resurgent campaign with the Nationals after signing a one-year, $5.5-million contract in the offseason following a three-year stint in Japan.
The 31-year-old owns a 12-2 record with a 2.76 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 8.2 K/9 in 21 starts. The one-time All-Star also sits in the 90th percentile in walk percentage, with only 28 free passes issued across 124 innings this season.
Griffin's impressive campaign coupled with an affordable contract made him a prime trade candidate for the Nationals, who are two games back of a wild-card spot and have reportedly been open to making deals.
