The New York Yankees have a need at third base and are looking at one of the top trade candidates to fill it.

The Yankees are among the teams that have asked the Arizona Diamondbacks about third baseman Eugenio Suárez, reports the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

However, Arizona hasn't decided whether it's ready to sell, Heyman adds.

The Yankees have relied on the light-hitting duo of Jorbit Vivas and Oswald Peraza at the hot corner since shifting Jazz Chisholm Jr. to second and releasing DJ LeMahieu.

Vivas is hitting .167/.273/.271 while Peraza owns a .456 OPS.

Suárez is tied for fourth in the majors with 31 home runs and ranks second in the NL in RBIs. The All-Star infielder is owed the remainder of his $15-million salary this season before becoming a free agent.

The 34-year-old slugger has made it known that he wants to play for the D-Backs after the deadline, but he also said he'd be open to a reunion with the Tigers after starting his career with Detroit.
