Mets' Alvarez: 'We are the best lineup' in baseball
New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez is confident his team has MLB's top offense heading into 2025 after a transformative offseason.
"I think it's going to be a great lineup," Alvarez said Monday while reporting early for spring training, according to SNY. "I think we are the best lineup in the whole baseball. ... We have a little bit of everything. We have power, we have hitting guys, and we have power hitters. We have everything. ... We can fight with any team."
The Mets lured free agent Juan Soto with a historic 15-year, $765-million deal, re-signed Pete Alonso, brought back Jesse Winker, and traded for Jose Siri to team with NL MVP runner-up Francisco Lindor, breakout star Mark Vientos, and Brandon Nimmo.

New York finished sixth in homers, seventh in wRC+, eighth in on-base percentage, and 10th in slugging percentage last season. Those numbers could take a big jump thanks to Soto, who went deep a career-high 41 times with a 180 wRC+ and .989 OPS.
The club is projected to have five players hit at least 20 homers, including three with 30-plus long balls, according to FanGraphs.
