The San Diego Padres agreed to a minor-league deal with utility player Gavin Sheets, sources told FanSided's Robert Murray.
Sheets' reported pact includes an invitation to big-league spring training.
The 28-year-old became a free agent in November after he was non-tendered by the Chicago White Sox.
Sheets hit .230/.295/.385 with 46 home runs and 175 RBIs in 435 games over four seasons with the franchise.
The Maryland native has spent most of his time in the outfield or at first base. He ranked in the 79th percentile in arm strength last season.
The Padres have had a busy couple of days. In addition to Sheets' reported pact, San Diego signed outfielder Connor Joe and reportedly agreed to a deal with veteran Jason Heyward.
