Red Sox reacquire Paxton from Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers traded left-hander James Paxton back to the Boston Red Sox for infield prospect Moises Bolivar, the clubs announced Friday.
Paxton, who was designated for assignment Monday, pitched for the Red Sox in 2023 before signing with the Dodgers in the offseason.
Boston will have to pay the 35-year-old around $1.5 million for the rest of the season, according to MassLive's Chris Cotillo.
Paxton owns a 4.43 ERA with a 1.45 WHIP and 64 strikeouts over 89 1/3 innings (18 starts) in 2024. The 11-year veteran could provide depth to a Red Sox rotation that already includes Tanner Houck, Nick Pivetta, Brayan Bello, Kutter Crawford, and Cooper Criswell.
Bolivar, 17, recorded three homers with 19 RBIs and a .787 OPS over 31 games in the Dominican Summer League this year.
