Red Sox reinstate Story from IL
The Boston Red Sox reinstated shortstop Trevor Story from the 60-day injured list, the club announced Saturday.
Story has been sidelined since fracturing his shoulder in a game against the Los Angeles Angels on April 5. The expectation upon diagnosis was that he would miss the remainder of the season.
The 31-year-old has battled countless injuries since inking a six-year, $140-million contract with the Red Sox ahead of the 2022 season. He missed the majority of 2023 rehabbing a torn UCL.
Story, a two-time All-Star with 177 career home runs and 124 stolen bases, has posted a .681 OPS across parts of three campaigns with Boston.
The Red Sox optioned infielder Mickey Gasper to Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding roster move.
Boston entered Saturday five games out of the final AL wild-card spot.
