The Chicago Cubs claimed slugging outfielder Franmil Reyes from the Cleveland Guardians on Monday, according to a team announcement.

Reyes was designated for assignment by the Guardians on Saturday after hitting .213/.254/.350 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs in 70 games.

The 27-year-old should bring a power element to a Cubs lineup that ranks 19th in homers and 23rd in RBIs. He has hit 30-plus homers twice in his career.

Reyes posted a .245/.308/.456 slash line with 58 homers, 47 doubles, and 182 RBIs for the Guardians after they acquired him from the San Diego Padres in a 2019 trade.

He's owed about $1.5 million for the remainder of this campaign and isn't a free agent until 2025.
