Report: Phillies considering adding Anibal Sanchez
The Philadelphia Phillies are interested in signing veteran right-hander Anibal Sanchez, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
Sanchez knows current Phillies manager Joe Girardi from their time with the then-Florida Marlins in 2006. He's also familiar with Dave Dombrowski, Philadelphia's president of baseball operations, from their days with the Detroit Tigers. Dombrowski signed Sanchez to a lucrative multi-year deal in December 2012.
The 36-year-old hurler posted a 6.62 ERA across 11 starts for the Washington Nationals last season, but he accrued a 3.85 ERA over 166 innings in 2019.
Sanchez has pitched for the Marlins, Tigers, Nationals, and Atlanta Braves during a 15-year run in the majors. He's won 112 games with 1,726 strikeouts in 1,948 1/3 innings over his career.
