Jackie Bradley Jr. may not be a Boston Red Sox player for long despite the club tendering him a contract earlier this month.

The Red Sox are actively trying to trade the 2018 Gold Glove-winning center fielder and were in talks with the Mets before New York acquired Jake Marisnick, reports Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe.

Boston entered the offseason with the goal from ownership to try to get below the $208-million luxury-tax threshold, and moving Bradley would help accomplish that. The 29-year-old is projected to earn nearly $11 million in his final year of arbitration before hitting free agency.

"Nothing has changed with regard to that," Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom said Monday regarding their intention to reset the luxury tax, according to Christopher Smith of Mass Live. "Everything is still as it was laid out early in the offseason. It’s still a goal. And I think certainly a realistic goal, though obviously we're not there right now. And there’s a lot of different potential paths you could line up to get us there. But that kind of ties into overall with the offseason there’s a lot of different things that could potentially happen. But it’s still a goal."

Bradley's tenure with the Red Sox has been marked by inconsistencies at the plate, but he's always been an exceptional defender. The 2018 ALCS MVP slashed .225/.317/.421 with 21 home runs, 28 doubles, and a career-worst 155 strikeouts across 147 games last season.
