Report: Padres to meet with Bumgarner's agent
The San Diego Padres are on the hunt this offseason for rotation help and have been connected to a wide assortment of starting pitchers, and they've added another name to the list.
San Diego is interested in free-agent left-hander Madison Bumgarner and plans to meet with his agent at the general manager meetings in Arizona, reports MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
Bumgarner's name has already been widely discussed this offseason. He's reportedly a top priority for the Atlanta Braves and the New York Yankees "will definitely talk" with his representation.
Any team that acquires Bumgarner will have to forfeit draft-pick compensation on top of what will likely be a multi-year deal, as the lefty was extended a qualifying offer - which he's expected to decline - by the San Francisco Giants.
Bumgarner bounced back last season after a couple of injury-plagued campaigns. He made his most starts (34) in three years to finish with a 9-9 record, 3.90 ERA, and 1.13 WHIP across 207 2/3 innings.
The Padres have also been linked to free-agent pitchers Gerrit Cole, Stephen Strasburg, and Zach Wheeler, as well as Colorado Rockies pitcher Jon Gray.
