Bochy: Padres' managerial job is 'last thing on my mind'

Bruce Bochy is in the home stretch of a long and storied managerial career that began with the San Diego Padres, and the team's recent job opening has caused some to wonder whether the 64-year-old could return to the team he started with.

Bochy announced prior to the beginning of this season that he expected to retire when his contract with the San Francisco Giants expired this winter after 13 years with the club.

However, the Padres, with whom Bochy spent the first 12 seasons of his managerial career, fired manager Andy Green on Saturday.

"I'm not even going there," Bochy told Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle when asked about the vacancy. "I'm concentrating here right now doing what I'm supposed to do. That's the last thing on my mind right now, as much as we're in the last week here."

Bochy began managing the Padres in 1995 and stayed there through 2006, leading the club to a 951-975 record and one National League pennant. He joined the Giants in 2007 and led the team to World Series victories in 2010, 2012, and 2014 while shepherding the club to a 1,049-1,049 record through Friday.

The skipper recently became the 11th manager in history to win 2,000 games when the Giants beat the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday.
