Pirates' Marte carted off after colliding with teammate vs. Giants
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Starling Marte was carted off the field on Friday after colliding with teammate Erik Gonzalez, who was also lifted from the contest against the San Francisco Giants.
A shallow fly ball wound up landing safely as the two Pirates fielders collided, resulting in Giants utility man Yangervis Solarte reaching safely.
After a lengthy delay, Jason Martin replaced Marte in the outfield, taking over in left while JB Shuck shifted over to center.
Meanwhile, in the infield, Colin Moran entered the game to take over third base, with Jung Ho Kang replacing Gonzalez at shortstop.
Marte, 30, missed a handful of games last year, landing on the injured list in May due to an oblique strain. The former All-Star was off to a slow start in 2019, hitting .203/.247/.377 with two homers and three stolen bases through Friday's victory for the first-place Pirates.
Gonzalez, 27, had posted a .216/.298/.294 slash line with two stolen bases so far in 2019.
