Umpires cease protest after Manfred proposes meeting
The World Umpires Association (WUA) released a statement Sunday in which members agreed to suspend their protest and accept a meeting suggested by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred.
"We appreciate the commissioner's willingness to engage seriously on verbal attacks and other important issues that must be addressed," the WUA said on Twitter.
"To demonstrate our good faith," the WUA continued, "MLB Umpires will remove the protest white wrist bands pending the requested meeting."
Umpires around the league began wearing white wristbands in protest of "escalating verbal attacks" following an incident between Ian Kinsler and Angel Hernandez.
Kinsler got into a verbal bout with Hernandez following an ejection Monday. The Detroit Tigers second baseman told media the following day that Hernandez should "find another job," which he was later fined for.
When asked about the protest following Saturday's game, Kinsler told reporters: "I hope they wear the wristbands for the remainder of their careers. I don't care.
