Poll: Nearly half of Americans would support The Rock presidential run
A new poll suggests that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will have plenty of support if he decides to run for president of the United States.
Piplsay polled 30,138 Americans for their thoughts on celebrities as politicians and found that 46% support Johnson running for office. Twenty-nine percent of respondents would back both a Johnson presidential run and actor Matthew McConaughey running for Texas governor, while another 17% would only like to see Johnson enter politics.
Johnson's strongest support was among millennials, with 40% of the demographic supporting potential political runs by him and McConaughey compared to 37% of Gen Xers and 23% of Gen Zers.
The 48-year-old Johnson said in 2017 that he was "seriously considering" running for president and remains open to the idea.
"I would consider a presidential run in the future if that's what the people wanted," he told USA Today in February. "Truly, I mean that, and I'm not flippant in any way with my answer. That would be up to the people ... So I would wait, and I would listen. I would have my finger on the pulse, my ear to the ground."
