Amateur Clanton betting favorite at Kentucky's PGA TOUR event
Amateur Luke Clanton is the betting favorite at this week's ISCO Championship, the PGA TOUR's alternate-field event in Kentucky.
It's the only known occasion where an amateur has been atop a PGA TOUR oddsboard.
Clanton, who's entering his junior year at Florida State, is +1200 at theScore Bet. He's priced ahead of former collegiate competitor Michael Thorbjornsen.
Clanton was a runner-up at last week's John Deere Classic and finished T10 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic a week prior. His back-to-back top-10 results mark the first time an amateur has accomplished the feat on the PGA TOUR since 1958.
The 20-year-old vaulted up to No. 212 in the Official World Golf Ranking despite having only three starts in professional tournaments.
If he pulls off the victory as the favorite, Clanton will become the second amateur to win the PGA TOUR this year. Nick Dunlap won the American Express in January to become the first amateur to win on the PGA TOUR since Phil Mickelson in 1991.
