The field

Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka headline an underwhelming crop of players. Many of the TOUR's top golfers are electing to skip the one-off event due to its slot on the calendar and the stark style contrast between Congaree and Torrey Pines.

Tyrrell Hatton, Matt Fitzpatrick, Sungjae Im, Tommy Fleetwood, and Harris English are the other top-ranked players in the field.

The course

Congaree is a 7,655-yard par 71 that attempts to resemble the Australian Sandbelt. There is no rough on the entire property, with 130 acres of sandy waste area replacing traditional bunkers like the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island.

Shaved runoffs surround the greens, leading to low spots and greenside waste areas. The course is extremely long for a par 71, and if it plays firm and fast as its design intends, it should provide one of the more unique tests on the PGA TOUR.
