The New York Rangers placed goaltender James Reimer on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination, reports Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Reimer played just one game for the Rangers. He was pulled after the first period Oct. 26 against the Los Angeles Kings, having allowed three goals on eight shots.

The 39-year-old cleared waivers Friday and was assigned to the Wolf Pack.

Reimer signed a one-year contract worth $850,000 on Oct. 25. He posted a 35-save shutout in the AHL while on a professional tryout with the Hartford Wolf Pack on Oct. 23.

Rangers starter Igor Shesterkin is out for the season with a knee injury. Backup Joonas Korpisalo was out when New York signed Reimer but has since returned. Dylan Garand has played 13 of the Rangers' 17 games.

Last season, Reimer signed with the Ottawa Senators in January. He posted an .886 save percentage in 14 appearances.

Reimer has played 540 games over 17 seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, Anaheim Ducks, Buffalo Sabres, Senators, and Rangers.
