<p>The Montreal Victoire became the first PWHL team to secure a spot in the Walter Cup playoffs with a 4-1 win against the Minnesota Frost on Wednesday.</p><p>Victoire captain Marie-Philip Poulin opened the scoring in the first period before Laura Stacey netted the eventual winner 24 seconds into the second frame. Both players also added goals in the third period, with Poulin tallying her PWHL-leading 17th of the campaign. Elaine Chuli made 19 saves in the victory.</p><p>The Victoire lead the PWHL with 48 points through 26 games. The league has a three-point system in which regulation wins are worth three points, overtime victories are worth two, and overtime/shootout losses are worth one.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Montreal finished second in the regular season last year and was swept by the Boston Fleet in the semifinals.</p><p>The PWHL regular season expanded from 24 contests to 30 this campaign. Teams break for the World Championship from April 3-25, and the playoffs commence in May.</p>

<p>The Toronto Maple Leafs signed NCAA free-agent forward Luke Haymes to a two-year, entry-level contract beginning next season, the team announced Monday.</p><p>Haymes tallied 12 goals and 18 points in 22 games with the Dartmouth Big Green this season as a junior. The Ottawa native had a breakout campaign last year when he recorded 18 goals and 36 points in 31 contests.</p><p>The 21-year-old excelled in the faceoff dot, winning 63.1% of his draws this campaign.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Haymes was ranked No. 1 among NCAA free agents this year by <a href="https://www.eliteprospects.com/news/nhl-prospects/the-elite-prospects-2025-ncaa-free-agency-guide">Elite Prospects</a>.</p><p>The 6-foot-1 center was named an ECAC First Team All-Star in 2023-24. Chicago named the 36-year-old to the starting lineup Saturday for what will be his last contest in his hometown.</p><p>"To have a special moment tonight and be in St. Louis, to have my family come in town. I won a Stanley Cup here. I'm just gonna finish this year as every game is gonna be my last game," Maroon said. "I'm gonna play as hard as I can and do everything I can to keep winning hockey."</p><p>Maroon has four goals, 16 points, and 81 penalty minutes in 59 games this season. He signed a one-year deal with Chicago last summer worth $1.3 million.</p><p>He entered Saturday's matchup with 125 goals, 320 points, and 1,071 penalty minutes across 839 NHL contests. Maroon's played for eight teams over his career, with his most notable stints coming with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers, and St. Louis Blues.</p><p>Maroon won three consecutive Stanley Cups from 2019-21 - one with the Blues and two with the Lightning. He was the first player since 1983 to win three straight Cups.</p><p>In 2016-17, Maroon netted a career-high 27 goals with the Oilers. He tallied a career-best 43 points in 2017-18 between the Oilers and New Jersey Devils.</p><p>The Philadelphia Flyers drafted Maroon 161st overall in 2007.</p>

The 33-year-old is set for her 13th appearance at the Worlds for Canada.</p><p>Chloe Primerano, 18, is the youngest player named to Canada's roster for a World Championship since Poulin in 2009. A standout with the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Primerano is the second-youngest defender in the team's history after Cheryl Pounder. She won gold with the Canadian Under-18s in January.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Ann-Renee Desbiens, Canada's starting goaltender, was named to the roster despite exiting the Montreal Victoire's shootout loss against the Boston Fleet on March 18 due to an injury. He'll join the AHL's Toronto Marlies on an amateur tryout for the rest of this season.</p><p>The 6-foot-3 rearguard led Union in scoring in his first two years with the Garnet Chargers. Prokop scored 35 points in 36 contests in 2023-24 and was named an ECAC First Team All-Star.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Prokop is a late bloomer who was never on the radar to be drafted during his junior career. The event drew massive ratings with over 16 million viewers in North America watching Canada knock off the United States in overtime of the championship game.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The 2024 All-Star Game featured four captains drafting teams and competing in a short three-on-three tournament. The event also included a revamped skills challenge in which <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/4560" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/4560">Connor McDavid</a> won the $1-million prize.</p><p>In previous years, the four teams were comprised of players from each division. She was drafted 35th overall by Montreal last summer after playing 15 seasons in the Swedish league.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The right-handed rearguard has captained Sweden since the 2023 World Championship. The Saskatchewan native has averaged only 3:50 of ice time while primarily being used on Toronto's fourth line or as the team's 13th forward.</p><p>"Kaitlin's arrival allows us to add even more depth to our squad," Victoire general manager Daniele Sauvageau said. "Both teams are visibly happy with these additions, which answered both of our needs."</p><p>Kjellbin and Willoughby are both on one-year contracts and set to become free agents this summer.</p>

The golfer's surgeon said he's expected to make a full recovery.</p><p>"I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support," Woods wrote.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>He didn't provide a timeline for his potential return, but recovery from a torn Achilles typically takes four-to-six months.</p><p>Woods originally committed to February's Genesis Invitational but withdrew following the death of his mother.</p><p>The 49-year-old hasn't played a PGA TOUR event since missing the cut at the 2024 Open Championship in July. He played in just five tournaments last season, only making the cut at the Masters. However, Woods competed four times in the TGL simulator league this year, most recently on March 4.</p><p>Woods has only appeared in 11 PGA TOUR events since his February 2021 car crash. His injuries required surgeries on his leg and ankle.</p><p>The 15-time major champion also underwent microdecompression surgery of the lumbar spine for nerve impingement in September 2024. That's believed to be the sixth procedure on his lower back in the last decade.</p><p>Woods tore his right Achilles tendon in 2008.</p><p>His 15 major titles are the second-most all time, trailing only Jack Nicklaus (18). His 82 career PGA TOUR victories are tied with Sam Snead for the most ever.</p><p>Woods hasn't won since the 2019 Zozo Championship. His last major title was the 2019 Masters.</p>

The reigning Hart Trophy winner didn't become the dominant player we know today until his fifth season in the league when he produced 97 points at 22 years old.</p><p>"I was obviously a top player growing up and in junior, so that didn't feel normal to me," MacKinnon said. "It definitely takes some time. I think Connor looks great, honestly. He creates so much. Sometimes, the puck's just not going in for him. It happens."</p><p>Bedard appreciated the positive comments from MacKinnon.</p><p>"Obviously, he's one of the top players in the league," Bedard said. "He's just been dominating, especially these last couple years. It means more when someone you're playing against, competing against, says something about you than a media person or someone like that. Obviously, it's nice of him to say that."</p><p>Bedard noted he watches MacKinnon closely as he looks to develop his game.</p><p>"Obviously, he's way faster than I am, but just his mindset of attacking, and the way he just puts guys on their heels so much," Bedard said. "Some of that's due to his speed, but also just how he's attacking middle ice. As I get older, I want to get faster. I'll never be at that level of skating, but (I want to have) that mindset of putting guys on their heels and attacking."</p>

In that small sample size, the 6-foot-2 defender has showcased tantalizing upside as a mobile, two-way, hard-working player.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>We don't often see 17-year-old defensemen play major roles for Canada at the world juniors, but that's exactly what Schaefer was shaping up to do before sustaining a tournament-ending injury versus Latvia. Canada cruised to a 4-0 win over eventual silver-medallist Finland in the opener, and Schaefer had a goal and an assist in just over 20 minutes. Canada wasn't the same team without him, which says a lot about Schaefer's game.</p><p>Schaefer has separated himself from the pack and is the most likely player of this class to be a top-of-the-lineup impact player. He's also one of the younger prospects in the draft - he wouldn't be eligible until 2026 if he was born two weeks later - and has a huge runway to continue his development. He's the obvious fit for the Sharks atop the board.</p><figure class="article-segment--embed"><iframe title="2. </script></figure><p>Misa has put together one of the best draft seasons we've seen in the OHL in recent years. He's been a menace with the Saginaw Spirit, collecting 58 goals and 124 points in 60 contests to lead the league in scoring.</p><p>Only three other draft-eligible players in the past decade have scored two points per game or higher: Connor McDavid, Marco Rossi, and Mitch Marner. Misa has the most goals by an OHLer in their draft year since Patrick Kane tallied 62 in 2007. Needless to say, Misa's in elite company statistically.</p><p>Misa has played center this season but could easily shift back to the left wing. Connor Bedard desperately needs a running mate in Chicago, and Misa would be a superb fit with his speed and finishing ability.</p><figure class="article-segment--embed"><iframe title="3. His nine goals and 34 points in as many outings are more in line with Matty Beniers' production.</p><p>Hagens has been a quality facilitator down the middle with top prospects Ryan Leonard (Capitals) and Gabe Perreault (Rangers) both at Boston College and the world juniors with Team USA. Now that Dylan Cozens is out of town, the Sabres could use a puck-carrying pivot who's an excellent playmaker, and Hagens fits the bill.</p><figure class="article-segment--embed"><iframe title="3. The right-handed defenseman has taken positive steps over the campaign and has been hot over his last 14 contests, posting three goals and 11 points.</p><p>Chicago briefly recalled the Belarusian during the AHL's All-Star break, but he only participated in practices.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Levshunov could make his NHL debut as soon as Monday against the Colorado Avalanche.</p><p>Chicago drafted the 6-foot-2 rearguard after he produced 35 points in 38 games with Michigan State last season. <p>Utah Hockey Club goaltender <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/4611" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/4611">Connor Ingram</a> has entered the player assistance program, the NHL and NHLPA announced Sunday.</p><p>Ingram will be unavailable to Utah for an indefinite period while he receives care. He can return to the team once cleared by the program administrators.</p><p>"For those of you that don't know, earlier this season I lost my mother to breast cancer," Ingram wrote on <a href="https://x.com/CBIngram1/status/1898796482058506483">social media</a>. "After trying to make a return to playing, I have come to realize that I am not myself. At this point in my life, I need to put my health first, and take the proper time I need away to come back at 100%.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"Though many view the program as a resource for substance abuse, I want to recognize all that they do. I am once again privileged to have access to their network of world-class health professionals to hopefully avoid long-term negative effects of putting your health second. With the program's assistance, I look forward to getting the medical help I need and returning to a happy and healthy life."</p><p>Utah head coach Andre Tourigny offered his support for Ingram.</p><p>"All our hearts are with him," Tourigny said, according to <a href="https://x.com/BagleyKSLsports/status/1898811580772438459">KSL Sports' Cole Bagley</a>. "We hope the best for him, and we just hope everything will go well for him."</p><p>Ingram won the Bill Masterton Trophy last year for perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey. He nearly retired because of obsessive compulsive disorder and lingering depression before he entered the player assistance program in 2021.</p><p>The 27-year-old has a 3.27 goals-against average and an .882 save percentage in 22 games this season. Ingram enjoyed a career year in 2023-24 when he posted a .907 SV% in 50 appearances.</p><p>Utah recalled goaltender <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/13119" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/13119">Jaxson Stauber</a> from the AHL's Tucson Roadrunners. The 25-year-old has a .925 SV% in four NHL games this season and has an .898 SV% in 17 AHL contests.</p>

"You know, I'm sure that I had a feeling that maybe something might happen, but ... I'm focused with this team, and that's what I can tell you."</p><p>Marner <a href="https://x.com/markhmasters/status/1898576179273384177">added</a>, I'm here to play hockey with this team. Yeah, that's what I can tell you. I want to be with this team."</p><p>Marner, 27, has 19 goals and 77 points in 61 games this season to rank seventh in NHL scoring. He's set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.</p><p>Rantanen was ultimately traded to the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/10707" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/10707">Logan Stankoven</a>, two first-round picks, and two third-rounders. He subsequently signed an eight-year extension at a $12-million cap hit.</p><p>Marner has played his entire 637-game career with the Maple Leafs after they drafted him in 2015. He's accumulated 213 goals and 716 points in the regular season but has drawn criticism for his playoff performances.</p><p>The Markham, Ontario, native has 11 goals and 50 points in 57 career postseason contests. Marner managed just one goal and three points in Toronto's seven-game loss to the Boston Bruins last spring.</p><p>Rantanen has 289 goals and 687 points in 632 career games. He netted a career-high 55 goals and 105 points in 2022-23 and eclipsed 100 points last season as well. The 28-year-old been exceptional in the playoffs, racking up 34 goals and 101 points in 81 postseason contests. He won the Stanley Cup in 2022 with the Colorado Avalanche.</p>

The 28-year-old has failed to match his career-best 2023-24 campaign when he notched 40 goals and 73 points in the regular season and seven goals and 12 points in 12 playoff contests.</p><p>Allvin admitted the team now has to accept the risk of letting Boeser walk in free agency after failing to find a trade.</p><p>"That's part of the business and the risk you have to take to be in it," Allvin said on <a href="https://www.sportsnet.ca/650/canucks-central/patrik-allvin-on-why-the-canucks-stood-pat-at-the-deadline/">Sportsnet's Canucks Central</a>. "Obviously, this gives us a couple more months to continue to talk and see if we can find a fit that works for both of us."</p><p>With the deadline behind him, Boeser said he's glad he can focus on the rest of the season.</p><p>"Your head's a blender," Boeser <a href="https://x.com/Canucks/status/1898260832964026484">said</a> after the Canucks' 3-1 win against the Minnesota Wild on Friday.</p><p>"You hear so many things, you don't know what's true and what's not true. I really try to not talk to (my agent) unless something was really important, so just letting him deal with that and deal with the Canucks.
