<p>The Columbus Blue Jackets activated forwards <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/2058" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/2058">Boone Jenner</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/11218" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/11218">Kirill Marchenko</a> from injured reserve, the team announced Friday.</p><p>Jenner has missed the first 56 games of the season after sustaining a shoulder injury during training camp. Marchenko suffered a broken jaw Feb. 2 against the Dallas Stars, and he missed Columbus' last three games before the 4 Nations Face-Off break.</p><p>Marchenko lined up in his typical right wing spot alongside Dmitry Voronkov and Adam Fantilli at Friday's practice, according to <a href="https://x.com/JacketsInsider/status/1892960940972249233">team reporter Jeff Svoboda</a>. Jenner appears set to make his season debut on the left wing with <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/10667" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/10667">Cole Sillinger</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/10658" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/10658">Kent Johnson</a>.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Jenner tallied 22 goals and 35 points in 58 games last season. The Blue Jackets captain is Columbus' all-time leader in games played, and the 31-year-old ranks third in franchise goals and points.</p><p>Marchenko has enjoyed a breakout campaign with 21 goals, 55 points, and a plus-31 rating in 53 contests. The 24-year-old leads Columbus in goals and plus/minus.</p><p>The Blue Jackets also announced forwards <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/3979" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/3979">Kevin Labanc</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/12988" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/12988">Owen Sillinger</a> are out for the rest of the season. Labanc underwent shoulder surgery Feb. 18, and Sillinger has a knee injury.</p><p>Labanc scored two goals and 12 points in 34 games. Sillinger made his NHL debut Jan. 9 for his only game with the Blue Jackets this season.</p><p>The Blue Jackets return to action Saturday against the Chicago Blackhawks.</p>

"But I think it's got to be really serious for him not to be able to go because he's such a warrior."</p><p>Panthers head coach Paul Maurice called Tkachuk day-to-day and said he won't play Saturday against the Seattle Kraken, according to <a href="https://x.com/J_McPherson1126/status/1892986896097161707">Miami Herald's Jordan McPherson</a>.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"He played through that broken sternum (two years ago in the Stanley Cup Final) and yeah, I don't think it's too good," Brady added.</p><p>Matthew was limited to just 6:47 of ice time. "He's all heart. He's a heart-and-soul guy."</p><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/5545" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/5545">Kyle Connor</a> was scratched as the ailing Tkachuk drew back into the lineup. The Winnipeg Jets forward leads all American players with 30 goals in 56 games this season, but he was held to one assist and one shot in his three games at the 4 Nations.</p><p>Sullivan lauded the impact both Tkachuks had as leaders.</p><p>"I think those guys were a huge part of the leadership group," Sullivan said, according to Price. He hasn't lived up to his $9.5-million cap hit, but he's still a good defenseman whose athleticism and size make him a top-pairing option.</p><p>The Stars have three quality left-handed defensemen in <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/6612" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/6612">Miro Heiskanen</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/8659" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/8659">Thomas Harley</a>, and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/3908" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/3908">Esa Lindell</a>. It's a perfect fit on paper.</p><p>There are two major hurdles to overcome for this move to become a reality. Nashville has to be convinced to move O'Reilly, who is signed for another two seasons at a very reasonable $4.5-million cap hit, and O'Reilly himself has to be interested in relocating.</p><p>Of course, O'Reilly elected to sign with the Predators in 2023 instead of re-upping with the Leafs after being acquired by Toronto at the deadline that year. It would be a shame if we didn't get to see him in the postseason at least once more.</p><p>The Panthers need an impact player on the backend. <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/529" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/529">Dmitry Kulikov</a>, who was good on the third pairing last season, is playing up the lineup in the top four. Karlsson would bump Kulikov back down and replace <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/3946" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/3946">Aaron Ekblad</a> on the top power-play unit.</p><p>Florida would need help to make the salary work. Karlsson is under contract for another two seasons after this year at a $10-million cap hit. The Penguins are currently retaining two players, but both contracts expire at the end of the season. Pittsburgh could retain some on Karlsson if the price was worth it.</p><p>Karlsson to the Panthers is the longest shot on this list, but it's the most fun trade to imagine.</p>

The three-point system implemented at the 4 Nations is key, as Canada is through to the final with a three-point regulation win against Finland but won't immediately clinch with a two-point overtime win.</p><p>The importance of regulation wins becomes clear here. Canada has one overtime win, and a second opens the door for Sweden to squeak through. The three-point system would see one-win Sweden advance over two-overtime-win Canada if Sweden's victory comes in regulation.</p><p>That being said, Canada can keep it simple. The Swedes will know if they have a chance to play for the title by the end of Canada-Finland, which is Monday's matinee. USA-Sweden is in the prime-time slot as the tournament shifts to Boston.</p><p>The winner of Canada-Finland doesn't matter to Sweden, which only has a chance to reach the final if that game goes to overtime. If it does, then Sweden must beat the Americans in regulation. An OT win does Sweden no good.</p><p> </p>

It had everything you would want in a hockey game," McDavid said, according to <a href="https://x.com/ArponBasu/status/1890985730781987231">The Athletic's Arpon Basu</a>. "It sucks it didn't go our way, but this thing's far from over."</p><p>The U.S. clinched a spot in the final with the regulation win. Canada will join the Americans in the title game with a regulation win against Finland on Monday. If Canada beats Finland in overtime, Sweden must go to overtime or lose in regulation for Canada to advance. A Canadian loss of any kind ends its tournament.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/3949" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/3949">Sam Bennett</a> reiterated McDavid's sentiment but made it clear the team is still focused on the task at hand.</p><p>"It's the greatest rivalry in hockey, and they got us tonight," Bennett said, according to <a href="https://www.nhl.com/news/topic/4-nations-face-off/canada-misses-its-moment-in-4-nations-face-off-loss-to-united-states">NHL.com's Mike Zeisberger</a>. "I mean, we're not going to look ahead to a (rematch), but obviously, we want them again."</p><p>The Canadians aren't the only ones who want a rematch. American <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/4541" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/4541">Dylan Larkin</a> would enjoy it as well.</p><p>"This was a special one," Larkin said, according to <a href="https://x.com/Sportsnet/status/1890987728851861556">Sportsnet</a>. It was incredible."</p><p>Canada had won 17 straight games in best-on-best tournaments. Its last loss came against the United States in the preliminary round of the 2010 Olympics. Canada went on to avenge the loss in the gold-medal game with Sidney Crosby's iconic overtime winner.</p><p>Head coach Jon Cooper is turning his attention to Finland with a sense of pride.</p><p>"The result is unfortunate, but I don't think anybody can leave the building and say that that team didn't stick up for each other or care for each other and play with passion," Cooper said, according to Zeisberger. "And when you do have that, the ceiling is limitless, what the team can do. So, in that regard, I'm extremely proud of the guys.</p><p>"Now it's on us here to tweak some things and find a way to beat Finland."</p><p> </p>

<p>The QMJHL's top rookie will receive the Sidney Crosby Trophy starting this season, the league announced Tuesday.</p><p>Crosby played two seasons in the QMJHL with the Rimouski Oceanic from 2003-05. He tallied 120 goals and 303 points in 121 regular-season games and added another 21 goals and 47 points in 22 playoff contests.</p><p>"Some of my fondest memories of hockey come from my time in the QMJHL playing for the Oceanic," Crosby said. "It's an absolute honor to have the league's Rookie of the Year trophy named after me."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Crosby not only took home QMJHL and CHL Rookie of the Year honors in 2004, but he was named Player of the Year. He won the award the following season as well. Crosby led the Oceanic to a QMJHL title in 2005, but the team came up short in the Memorial Cup.</p><p>The QMJHL's Rookie of the Year trophy didn't have an official name before Tuesday.</p><p>"When the committee met, Crosby's name quickly became the unanimous choice," QMJHL commissioner Mario Cecchini said. "He has left such an important mark on the history of the Oceanic and the QMJHL, and you can see how proud he is of his time with us every time he talks about it."</p><p>The QMJHL renamed the league's top scorer award after Mario Lemieux in 2024. The junior circuit also has trophies named after icons Jean Beliveau, Guy Lafleur, Mike Bossy, and Jacques Plante, among others.</p>

The Victoire have won five straight and are the class of the PWHL at this stage.</p><p>Star forward Marie-Philip Poulin has led the recent run. The 33-year-old paces the PWHL with 10 goals in 14 games and has been red hot lately, recording eight tallies in her last seven contests. She's scored as many goals as the entire Ottawa Charge team over that span. </p><p>Poulin has been dominant at the other end of the ice, too. The Victoire have been a lockdown defensive unit, led by Poulin's underrated two-way prowess. Minnesota remains a challenger for the No. 1 seed with 15 contests to go, though Montreal has opened up a six-point lead and still has a game in hand.</p><p>The Frost's success has come as an overall unit. Rearguard Claire Thompson has looked incredible offensively, while Kendall Coyne Schofield has been among the league's best even-strength creators.</p><p>But the midseason MVP nod goes to Taylor Heise. She has surpassed her point total from last season in five fewer games, and she's done it while Grace Zumwinkle and Dominique Petrie have combined to play one game in 2025 due to injuries. Toronto bookended shootout losses in Minnesota and Montreal with regulation victories over New York and Ottawa entering the break.</p><p>That's been without reigning MVP Natalie Spooner, who returns to the lineup Tuesday against the Frost. The bad news, though, is that Sarah Nurse is now out for at least six games after sustaining an injury in the Rivalry Series.</p><p>Hannah Miller has been the Sceptres' breakout star this season. She ranks second in PWHL goals with seven, most notably tallying two at Scotiabank Arena against the Sirens to secure a much-needed win.</p><p>While top forwards Nurse, Emma Maltais, and Daryl Watts have fought through goal-scoring droughts, Miller has been there to spark the offense. That's not exactly a recipe for success, and Ottawa's 1-4-0 record in that span reflects it.</p><p>Emerance Maschmeyer's play is the reason the Charge aren't completely out of the mix. She's been superb on the campaign and sports a .925 save percentage in 12 games.</p>

<p>The Toronto Sceptres activated star forward Natalie Spooner from long-term injured reserve on Tuesday ahead of a clash against the Minnesota Frost.</p><p>The 34-year-old sustained a torn ACL in May during the Walter Cup semifinals versus Minnesota.</p><p>"I'm excited to be back with my teammates and looking forward to competing next to them again," Spooner said in a <a href="https://www.thepwhl.com/en/news/2025/february/11/natalie-spooner-returns-and-will-make-season-debut-against-minnesota">statement</a>. "It was obviously a long road to get to this point and doesn't happen without a lot of amazing people in my corner."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Sceptres shifted defender Lauren Bernard to the team's reserve and released forward Sam Cogan in corresponding moves.</p><p>"We are tremendously proud of the work she has invested in getting herself to this point," Sceptres general manager Gina Kingsbury said in a statement. "This has been a long journey, and she has shown throughout this process just how elite of an athlete she is."</p><p>Spooner claimed MVP in the PWHL's first season with a dominant 20-goal, 27-point campaign in 24 regular-season contests. She led the league in goals by nine over teammate Sarah Nurse.</p><p>The Sceptres placed Nurse on LTIR on Monday after she sustained an injury during Game 4 of the Rivalry Series.</p><p>Toronto defeated Minnesota 3-2 in Spooner's return. She notched one assist in the victory. </p>

<p>Hockey Canada is hiring a full-time general manager for the Program of Excellence, <a href="https://x.com/reporterchris/status/1889312988068286466">TSN's Chris Johnston</a> reports.</p><p>The POE most notably oversees Canada's team for the World Junior Championship. It's also responsible for the Under-17 and Under-18 teams.</p><p>Latvia stunningly upset Canada in the WJHC round robin this year. Czechia then knocked off Canada for the second straight tournament in the quarterfinal, marking the first time that Canada has failed to reach the semifinals in consecutive years since the tournament changed to a playoff format in 1996.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Canada has won three straight gold medals at the Under-18's Hlinka Gretzky Cup and claimed gold at the World U18s last spring. Canada won back-to-back world junior titles in 2022 and 2023.</p><p>Hockey Canada has previously named general managers for the U17, U18, and world junior levels on a year-by-year basis. Lethbridge Hurricanes GM Peter Anholt has picked Canada's world junior roster for the past two tournaments, and Erie Otters GM Dave Brown has done the same at the U18 level for two seasons. Drummondville Voltigeurs GM Yanick Lemay is in his first campaign as GM of the U17 team.</p><p>The POE's full-time GM will oversee all three rosters going forward and will report to Hockey Canada's senior vice president of high performance and hockey operations, Scott Salmond.</p><p>Hockey Canada is also hiring a vice president of hockey operations, Johnston reports.</p>

Ensuring Olympic participation for years to come is a must, but the NHL wants a piece of the pie, too.</p><p>An NHL-run biennial competition would be a welcome addition to the hockey calendar, and the success of the 4 Nations will likely dictate what that future holds. Fan interest, player withdrawals and injuries, and more will factor into the overall success of this first tournament.</p><p>It's inexcusable that the NHL hasn't participated in an international event in more than eight years. It's a great sign we have the 4 Nations and will see NHL players at the 2026 Olympics, but it's something that must continue into the 2030s.</p>

He's tied for second among NHL defenders in scoring with fellow American blue-liner <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/5520" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/5520">Zach Werenski</a>.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"It was so hard for him to make that final decision (with) the chance to play with his brother (Jack Hughes) on Team USA," Hughes' agent, Pat Brisson, told <a href="https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/quinn-hughes-putting-canucks-first-with-decision-to-pull-out-of-4-nations/">Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre</a>. "But he just feels responsible as the captain of the Vancouver Canucks to be the best he can be for his team."</p><p>"It has been a long year and to have the chance to rest and rehab, we just felt it was the bigger benefit," Brisson added.</p><p>Sanderson has five goals and 35 points in 55 appearances. The 22-year-old has played over 24 minutes a night for the Senators this season. <p>Team USA and Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin made it clear that forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/10525" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/10525">Matt Boldy</a> will be at the 4 Nations on merit, not because he's a member of the Wild.</p><p>"As we kept narrowing down the names last fall, (Boldy) stayed on the list," Guerin told <a href="https://www.nhl.com/news/topic/4-nations-face-off/matt-boldy-ready-to-shine-for-team-usa-at-4-nations">NHL.com's Mike Zeisberger</a>. "At one point, I said to my (Team USA) staff: 'I'm not just doing this because he plays on my NHL team. Watch him and tell me I'm wrong.'"</p><p>Boldy has 18 goals and 45 points in 54 games this season to rank 13th among American skaters. The 23-year-old is the second-youngest forward on Team USA's roster behind New Jersey Devils star <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/8594" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/8594">Jack Hughes</a>.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Massachusetts native was exceptional at the World Championship last spring. Boldy tallied six goals, and he led the tournament with 14 points in eight games.</p><p>"It's not just from what he did at the Worlds," Guerin explained. "But to see him emerge, to see him embrace the opportunity to represent his country and take the next step while donning our jersey, that's impressive."</p><p>Wild head coach John Hynes saw Boldy's standout performance firsthand as Team USA's bench boss at the Worlds.</p><p>"Matty's a guy that's coming into his prime," Hynes said. "I had the opportunity to go with him to the World Championships last year, and he was able to play outside of the organization with other NHL players. He was on a line with (Johnny) Gaudreau and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/2524" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/2524">Brock Nelson</a>, and he flourished."</p><p>Boldy is excited for his opportunity to don the Team USA jersey at the 4 Nations.</p><p>"It was so great to make the team," he said. "It had been something I'd been striving for all year. You always have the expectation on yourself that you can do it, and that you can play well enough to be considered."</p><p>Team USA captain and Toronto Maple Leafs star <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/5586" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/5586">Auston Matthews</a> lauded Boldy's potential.</p><p>"(Boldy's) really good," Matthews said. <p>The Vancouver Canucks signed defenseman <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/4553" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/4553">Marcus Pettersson</a> to a six-year contract extension that carries a $5.5-million cap hit, the team announced Wednesday.</p><p>The contract has a full no-move clause for the first three years and a 15-team no-trade clause for the last three, <a href="https://x.com/frank_seravalli/status/1887323369789440111">Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli</a> reports.</p><p>Vancouver acquired Pettersson and forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/9744" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/9744">Drew O'Connor</a> from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night in exchange for forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/5547" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/5547">Danton Heinen</a>, defenseman <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/10907" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/10907">Vincent Desharnais</a>, prospect <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/15180" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/15180">Melvin Fernstrom</a>, and the New York Rangers' 2025 first-round pick.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Pettersson has played over 23 minutes in both games with the Canucks so far. The 28-year-old has three goals and 18 points in 49 contests this season and has averaged 22:09.</p><p>"In just a couple of games, Marcus has already shown us the type of leadership, poise, and character that we want in a top-four defenseman," Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said in a <a href="https://x.com/frank_seravalli/status/1887323369789440111">statement</a>. "He has a calming influence on the ice, uses his long reach and hockey smarts to break up plays, and has a good first pass to help us create more offensively. We are extremely happy to get this deal done and look forward to working with him in both the short term and long term."</p><p>The Swede was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Pettersson costs just over $4 million against the cap on his current contract.</p><p>Vancouver is tied with the Calgary Flames for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.</p>

</table></div></figure><p>Poulin has surged to the top of the MVP leaderboard with a magnificent run leading into the international break. The Montreal Victoire star has eight goals in her last seven games after starting the campaign with just two in her first seven contests. She paces the PWHL in goals by three over Toronto Sceptres forward Hannah Miller.</p><p>What's gone underappreciated is Poulin's two-way prowess. She's led an elite defensive unit, with the Victoire winning her five-on-five minutes 7-3. Poulin is shutting down the opposition's top units while also being the league's best goal-scorer.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Poulin is far from a runaway favorite, though. Fillier has been a sensation with the New York Sirens, and she leads the PWHL in scoring as a rookie. The 24-year-old is a significant reason why the Sirens have gone from last in 2024 to firmly in the playoff picture this season. Fillier has been the league's most dynamic offensive player, and her instant chemistry with linemate Alex Carpenter has been a joy to watch.</p><p>Carpenter missed Sunday's game against the Victoire due to an upper-body injury. If she's out for any extended period and Fillier keeps the Sirens afloat in her absence, it'll be tough to see any outcome where Fillier isn't MVP.</p><p>Multiple players are in the mix after Poulin and Fillier. She didn't play a single game last season as she focused on her medical school studies, and now she leads all defenders in scoring in her return to pro hockey.</p><p>But Defender of the Year isn't just about the offense, and that's why Ambrose is the woman to beat for now. The Victoire blue-liner and reigning Defender of the Year continues to be the league's premier shutdown rearguard. Montreal has won her five-on-five minutes 9-2 despite Ambrose facing each team's top line nightly. </table></div></figure><p>Maschmeyer has been the PWHL's workhorse goaltender. She played in every Ottawa game last season and leads the league with 12 appearances this year. Not only has she played the most, but the 30.6 shots against per 60 she's faced are the most among goaltenders with at least two games played.</p><p>The veteran has stumbled slightly in her last two outings after a lights-out start to the campaign. Maschmeyer allowed four goals on 18 shots Saturday against Toronto and three on 20 versus New York last Monday. The Charge would be in dire straits without her exceptional play, but her grasp on Goaltender of the Year is slipping.</p><p>Desbiens is the top challenger while being a mantra of consistency. The Victoire netminder has posted a save percentage of .914 or better in every game since the season opener and has allowed two or fewer goals in her last eight contests. She has an absurd .946 SV% in six games since the start of 2025.</p><p>Schroeder posted back-to-back shutouts early in January and has been between the pipes for six of New York's seven wins. She might be the league's best player, let alone the best rookie.</p><p>In the race for second, Fleet forward Hannah Bilka is playing significant minutes on Boston's top line with veterans Susanna Tapani and Hilary Knight. Her injection of speed and offense to the lineup has been key.</p><p>Sirens defender Nylen Persson has seamlessly transitioned from the Swedish league and has been a strong fit alongside Micah Zandee-Hart on New York's top pairing. <p>Dallas Stars defenseman <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/6612" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/6612">Miro Heiskanen</a> is considered week-to-week with a lower-body injury, head coach Peter DeBoer told reporters Thursday, according to the <a href="https://x.com/Lassimak/status/1885018597048643808">Dallas Morning News' Lia Assimakopoulos</a>.</p><p>Heiskanen has officially been ruled out for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off, Finland announced.</p><p>The 25-year-old sustained the injury when Vegas Golden Knights forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/1741" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/1741">Mark Stone</a> awkwardly took him down in Tuesday's game.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><figure class="article-segment--embed"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet">

He's playing 25:10 per contest to rank sixth league-wide.</p><p>Stone received a two-minute minor for tripping on the play.</p><p>"I go to reach to try and angle him out, and I'm not sure who it was that tripped me, and I fell forward," Stone said postgame, per <a href="https://x.com/JesseGranger_/status/1884480952015151516">The Athletic's Jesse Granger</a>. "You never want to see guys get hurt, and I hope he's all right. I was trying to make a play and got tripped into him."</p><p>Only 11 Finnish blue-liners have played in the NHL this season. <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/2566" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/2566">Jani Hakanpaa</a>, named to Finland's roster in December, has suited up for just two games with the Toronto Maple Leafs this campaign and is sidelined with a lower-body injury.</p><p>The Stars are second in the Central Division with 65 points.</p>
