He appeared to suffer the injury while chasing down a foul ball.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Acuña has played only 55 games this season and didn't make his season debut until May as he recovered from a torn ACL. </p><p>Despite his late start, Acuña was named to his fifth NL All-Star team, and he owns a .306/.429/.577 with 14 homers and 26 RBIs across 238 plate appearances.</p><p>The Braves went 8-7 while Acuña was sidelined. Atlanta is 53-68 and is 16 games out of first in the NL East.</p>

<p>Calgary Flames forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/1182" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/1182">Nazem Kadri</a> feels he should be in the mix to make Canada's men's Olympic hockey team after being left off the 42-player orientation camp roster earlier in August.</p><p>"I feel like I deserve a chance," Kadri told <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6554054/2025/08/15/nazem-kadri-2026-olympics-hockey-canada-roster-nhl/">The Athletic's Julian MacKenzie</a> on Thursday. "I think over the last few seasons, I've certainly proven that with my statistics and the winning pedigree. I think it speaks for itself."</p><p>Kadri tallied 35 goals and 67 points in 82 games last season. He was tied for seventh among Canadians in goals and 19th in scoring. Kadri hasn't played in the postseason since 2022 with the Colorado Avalanche, and he has 19 goals and 44 points in 52 career playoff contests.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The 2026 Games are likely the last opportunity for the 34-year-old to represent Canada at the Olympics. Kadri most recently donned the Canadian jersey at the 2014 World Championship.</p><p>"Honestly, man, it would be an absolute dream come true to somehow crack that team," Kadri said. "I've been a long shot before. I'm looking forward to giving myself an opportunity, but I understand I'm going to have to play well."</p><p>After setting a new career high in goals last season, Kadri said he feels like he's playing some of the best hockey of his career.</p><p>Kadri not so subtly showed his displeasure after being left off the roster by commenting "???" on an Instagram post after Hockey Canada's announcement.</p><figure class="article-segment--embed"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet">

I think I should be in consideration."</p><p>Olympic rosters will be finalized in early 2026 before the tournament begins Feb. 11 in Milan-Cortina. It's the first time NHL players will be at the Olympics since 2014.</p>

The memo also cautions that using these inhalants can mask neurological symptoms, including those used to identify a concussion.</p>

<p>Vancouver Canucks forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/7699" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/7699">Elias Pettersson</a> is laser-focused on bouncing back from his lackluster 2024-25 campaign.</p><p>"I know what I'm capable of," Pettersson said at Sweden's Olympic orientation camp Wednesday, according to <a href="https://www.nhl.com/news/elias-pettersson-feeling-stronger-looking-for-revenge-after-struggles-with-vancouver-canucks">NHL.com's Peter Ekholm</a>. "For myself, it's revenge. I'm not happy with last season."</p><p>Pettersson struggled with inconsistency and injuries last season, the first of his eight-year, $92.8-million contract. He managed just 15 goals and 45 points in 64 games and went 15 consecutive contests without a goal as Vancouver missed the playoffs. Pettersson netted a career-high 39 goals and 102 points in 2022-23.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Rick Tocchet, the Canucks' head coach last campaign, criticized Pettersson's preparation after the season.</p><p>"I think he got behind the eight ball early," Tocchet <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3270232" href="https://thescore.com/news/3270232">said</a> in April. "Then the expectations come, and then there's a little bit of struggle with the team, and he could never gain traction."</p><p>Pettersson, who's listed at 6-foot-2, 176 pounds, has added mass to his frame this summer.</p><p>"I've put on some (muscle)," Pettersson said, per Ekholm. "It's always about building your base strength to get quick on the ice. To gain a few pounds, get stronger in general, that's always the goal. But for me, it's a bonus to gain a few pounds."</p><p>The 26-year-old is trying to take lessons from the disappointing campaign to improve himself going forward.</p><p>"I'm learning from what happened last year to be a more mature player going into (this season)," Pettersson said. "I'm trying to lead by example. But I know that I can become a better leader in that aspect. I'm trying my best, but also trying to get better."</p>

We're returning largely the same group up front from Canada's winning team at the 4 Nations Face-Off. The only differences are the arrival of Suzuki and Thomas, and the omission of Konecny, who was a healthy scratch in the final. We considered keeping Konecny over Jarvis, but opted for the latter because of his penalty-killing and defensive abilities.</p><p>Suzuki has evolved into one of the game's better two-way centers, putting up 89 points while finishing 13th in Selke Trophy voting. He also has a penchant for stepping up in the clutch, which should help him earn a spot on this team. Thomas, meanwhile, might've been on the 4 Nations squad if it weren't for an early-season injury. Remember, Blues general manager Doug Armstrong is picking Canada's roster, and he knows Thomas' game as well as anyone.</p><p>Both Celebrini and Connor Bedard could play their way onto this team with strong starts to the 2025-26 campaign, but that requires more projecting than we were willing to do at this point - especially given Canada's enviable depth. Celebrini has a legitimate shot. Toews, Makar, Morrissey, and Theodore are guarantees for Canada's roster, assuming they stay healthy, and could even form the entire top four.</p><p>Parayko was a slight surprise at the 4 Nations, but considering Armstrong is at the helm, it would now be a surprise to see the 6-foot-6 blue-liner left off the roster. Harley's evolution over the past two seasons has made him nearly impossible to deny. He was an injury replacement at the 4 Nations, but he still played over 21 minutes in the championship game to rank fourth on Canada in usage.</p><p>The big questions lie in the final two spots. Doughty will be 36 years old when the 2026 Olympics take place. The oldest defenseman on Canada's 2014 roster was then-31-year-old Dan Hamhuis. Doughty logs huge minutes in Los Angeles, but he needs to maintain - or even increase - his level of play early next season to avoid being replaced by a younger option.</p><p>Bouchard is the most polarizing Canadian defender in the game right now. His fans see an elite offensive defenseman who generates positive results and has historic levels of playoff production. His detractors view his errors as too costly for a Canadian team that can choose from an outrageous pool of talent. With two more roster spots available at the Olympics, Bouchard gets the nod as the last defender. He's massive at 6-foot-6 and plays behind a similarly huge defense in Vegas. Hill's lackluster playoff run puts his position in jeopardy, and he'll need to impress early next season to maintain his spot on the roster.</p><p>The wild card here is Blackwood. The 28-year-old has seemingly turned the corner after struggles in New Jersey and early in his tenure with San Jose. He was excellent early last season with the Sharks and continued that form in a completely different environment in Colorado. At 6-foot-4 with elite athleticism, Blackwood has the highest upside of any Canadian goaltender right now and is Binnington's biggest threat for the No. 1 spot.<em> </em><em>- Cushman</em></p>

<p>The Vancouver Canucks signed forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/8557" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/8557">Vitali Kravtsov</a> to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Tuesday.</p><p>The deal is worth the league minimum $775,000 in the NHL and $450,000 in the AHL, reports <a href="https://x.com/DhaliwalSports/status/1952839106112962901">CHEK News' Rick Dhaliwal</a>.</p><p>Kravtsov tallied 27 goals and 58 points in 66 KHL games last season with Traktor Chelyabinsk. The 25-year-old finished sixth in league scoring and ninth in goals. Kravtsov ranked second on Traktor in points behind Maxim Shabanov, who signed with the New York Islanders as a free agent in July.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Canucks owned Kravtsov's signing rights, as Vancouver extended him a qualifying offer before he returned to the KHL in 2023. The team acquired Kravtsov from the New York Rangers the same year for <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/9829" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/9829">William Lockwood</a> and a 2026 seventh-round pick.</p><p>The Rangers drafted Kravtsov ninth overall in 2018, but he has struggled to break through in North America. He's managed just six goals and 12 points in 64 NHL contests over two seasons.</p><p>The 6-foot-2 winger will be a restricted free agent next summer.</p>

</script></figure><p><strong>Toughest omissions:</strong> Jason Robertson, Matthew Knies</p><p>Team USA opted for veterans at the bottom of their lineup for the 4 Nations Face-Off. The management group takes a slightly different direction this time around, replacing Chris Kreider and Brock Nelson with World Championship standouts Thompson and Keller and adding Tuch to the mix with the extra roster spot. Trocheck holds his place because he's a right-handed faceoff specialist the coaching staff will covet.</p><p>The gold medal at the Worlds was huge for USA Hockey, and the impact Thompson and Keller had adds significantly to their case for the Olympics. The Americans have a bevy of elite offensive talent and need to lean into that identity. Including Thompson and Keller on the roster - and even giving Connor a bigger role - makes the U.S. that much harder to defend against and gives them insurance in case of injury.</p><p>Robertson remains a significant omission. He was great in the second half of the campaign and finished the playoffs strong, but was quiet for much of the Stars' postseason run (his first goal didn't come until Game 3 of the Western Conference Final). He has to be superb early next season to leapfrog the other bubble players who helped the USA to its first gold at the Worlds in 92 years.</p><p>As for Tuch, he adds size and speed that could be useful on the fourth line. </script></figure><p><strong>Toughest omissions:</strong> Lane Hutson, Noah Hanifin</p><p>It's fair to wonder if the 4 Nations final would've gone any differently if the United States had its two top defensemen - Hughes and McAvoy - in the lineup. McAvoy suffered a season-ending shoulder injury during the round robin, while Hughes didn't suit up in the tournament at all while recovering from injury.</p><p>Behind them, Slavin and Faber showed great chemistry as the team's shutdown pair and should be reunited in Italy. Jones' length and right-handedness will certainly put him on the Americans' radar after a tremendous Cup run with the Florida Panthers. He and Werenski have chemistry dating back to their days together with the Columbus Blue Jackets, too.</p><p>Many will hope for Hutson to make this team after his historic rookie season. But as dynamic and exciting as he is, it's fair to wonder if he'd be able to hold up defensively against Canada's stacked forward group. Oettinger and Swayman are near locks to make the team, too. Swayman holding his spot on the 4 Nations squad despite his poor start last season says a lot about the confidence USA Hockey has in this trio.</p><p>The Americans should be comfortable in net even if injuries strike, though. </ul><p>We're nearly six months away from the opening ceremonies of the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics on Feb. 6. To celebrate, theScore's Kyle Cushman and Josh Wegman decided to project rosters for the men's hockey tournament, which will include NHLers for the first time since 2014.</p><p>We begin by projecting rosters for the top European countries: Czechia, Finland, Sweden, and Switzerland. While some of the other competing nations - Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, and Slovakia - boast some high-end talent, we omitted them from this exercise because their rosters will likely be mostly comprised of non-NHL players.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Unlike the 4 Nations Face-Off, which permitted teams to carry 20 skaters and dress 18, Olympic rosters are expanded - each team can take 22 skaters and dress 20. </script></figure><p>With legitimate firepower up front and a goalie with game-stealing ability in Dostal, Czechia could be a medal contender in Italy. Pastrnak, Zacha, Necas, and Hertl are a legitimate quartet of forwards that Czechia can build its lineup around. Don't sleep on Kulich, either, as he's coming off a strong rookie season.</p><p>Czechia's biggest weakness is the left side of the blue line, which we had to piece together with three non-NHLers in Krejcik, Hajek, and Kempny. That group needs to play greater than the sum of its parts. On the bright side, the majority of this group has experienced winning together, taking home gold at the 2024 World Championship. </script></figure><p>Finland is the defending gold medalist, having beaten Russia in the championship game at the 2022 Olympics. The Finns have a path to another medal with a core of elite two-way players who can make life difficult for the deeper teams in the tournament. The third line with Luostarinen and Lundell can be a difference-maker, just as we saw in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.</p><p>But the team's biggest piece is Heiskanen. His presence completely overhauls the makeup of the group and puts the more defensive blue-liners into better-suited roles. Finland can also pull from European-based options, making World Championship captain Lehtonen a candidate for depth on the backend. </script></figure><p>If Sweden's going to win its first Olympic gold since 2006, it's going to be on the back of arguably the tournament's best blue line. Dahlin is a legitimate Norris Trophy contender. Veterans Hedman and Karlsson still have game left. Forsling and Brodin are among the league's best shutdown defenders, though there are questions about the latter, as he could miss the start of the 2025-26 season while recovering from offseason surgery.</p><p>While the forward corps may lack a true superstar, its depth can only be matched by Canada and the United States. There are question marks down the middle, though, with Pettersson coming off a down year and Zibanejad being relegated to the wing with the New York Rangers last season. </script></figure><p>Switzerland will again be an upset candidate at the Olympics with a quality offensive core and a legitimately good top four on the back end. Hischier, Meier, and Fiala give the Swiss the kind of firepower they've typically lacked at major tournaments, and don't overlook Suter and the 25 goals he potted with the Canucks last season.</p><p>Josi's health is the biggest factor. If he's on his game, his offensive creativity is a game-changer. Siegenthaler, Bichsel, and Moser are all strong defensive presences who can get the puck up to their talented forwards. The goaltending is weak, but 37-year-old Genoni just won MVP at the Worlds. If he has a little bit of magic left, the Swiss could be a dark-horse threat for a medal. <em>- Cushman</em></p>

<p>The Toronto Maple Leafs signed forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/8758" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/8758">Nick Robertson</a> to a one-year contract worth $1.825 million to avoid arbitration, the team announced.</p><p>The Maple Leafs <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3318732" href="https://thescore.com/news/3318732">reportedly</a> filed for arbitration at $1.2 million, while Robertson came in at $2.2 million. The hearing was set for Sunday. Robertson is the last player who filed for arbitration to settle, though all parties this year reached an agreement before an arbitration hearing was necessary.</p><p>The restricted free agent tallied 15 goals and 22 points in 69 games last season. He averaged a career-high 12:00 of ice time, but was a healthy scratch for most of the postseason. He notched one goal and two points in his three playoff appearances.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Robertson will again be an RFA with arbitration rights after the 2025-26 campaign.</p><p>Following the 2023-24 season, Robertson reportedly requested a trade from the Maple Leafs, but a move didn't materialize. He ultimately signed a one-year, $875,000 contract with Toronto as an RFA without arbitration rights.</p><p>The 23-year-old has accumulated 32 goals and 56 points in 156 career games over parts of five seasons. The Maple Leafs drafted Robertson 53rd overall in 2019.</p>

<p>The Boston Fleet hired Kris Sparre as their head coach, the team announced Wednesday.</p><p>Sparre is the second head coach in the Fleet's history. Courtney Kessel left Boston in June following two seasons to become Princeton's women's hockey head coach.</p><p>The 38-year-old joins the Fleet after three campaigns as an assistant with the AHL's San Diego Gulls, the affiliate for the Anaheim Ducks. Sparre also previously worked in the OHL, serving as an assistant with the Niagara IceDogs and an associate with the Flint Firebirds. Additionally, he spent two seasons in Austria as an assistant with EC Salzburg. The Boston gig marks Sparre's first coaching job in women's hockey.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"What makes Kris such a strong fit is his experience in the AHL, where coaches are constantly balancing the need to win now with the responsibility of developing players - a challenge that mirrors what we face in the PWHL," Fleet general manager Danielle Marmer said. "Our players need to grow and perform in real time, and Kris understands how to create that environment."</p><p>The Fleet went 15-10-5 last season and finished with 44 points but missed the playoffs following a three-way tiebreaker with the Ottawa Charge and Minnesota Frost.</p><p>"This is an incredible opportunity to be part of a league that has experienced remarkable growth and momentum in recent seasons," Sparre said. <p>The Los Angeles Clippers are signing veteran guard <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/314" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/314">Chris Paul</a>, the team announced Monday.</p><p>Paul agreed to a one-year, $3.6-million contract, reports <a href="https://x.com/ChrisBHaynes/status/1947313219845882269">NBA insider Chris Haynes</a>.</p><p>"Chris is one of the most impactful players to ever wear a Clippers uniform and it's appropriate that he returns to the team for this chapter of his career," Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank said in a statement obtained by <a href="https://x.com/MarkG_Medina/status/1947427076069568617">Sportskeeda's Mark Medina</a>.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Paul averaged 8.8 points, 7.4 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.3 steals with the San Antonio Spurs last season.</p><p>An 11-time All-NBA selection, Paul played for the Clippers from 2011 to 2017, finishing top seven in MVP voting in his first five campaigns and making the All-Defensive team every year. He's the franchise leader in assists (4,023).</p><p>Paul left the Clippers in 2017 in a trade to the Houston Rockets, where he spent two seasons paired with James Harden. The duo will reunite in Los Angeles.</p><p>The upcoming season will be Paul's 21st year in the NBA. The 40-year-old is one of 11 players in league history to appear in 20 campaigns, joining <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/72" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/72">LeBron James</a> as the only other active player to reach the milestone.</p><p>Paul hasn't played in the playoffs since 2023 with the Phoenix Suns. The Clippers finished fifth in the Western Conference and were eliminated in the first round by the Denver Nuggets last season. Paul has yet to win an NBA title.</p><p>The future Hall of Famer is the latest addition for the Clippers, who have signed guard <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/11887" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/11887">Bradley Beal</a> and center <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/300" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/300">Brook Lopez</a> and acquired forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/45122" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/45122">John Collins</a> this offseason.</p><p>"Chris will help fortify our backcourt with his exceptional ball-handling, playmaking, and shooting," Frank said. "He is joining us as a reserve point guard and is excited to fill whatever role (Tyronn) Lue asks him to play.</p><p>"He wants to be part of the group and we're fortunate to have him back."</p>
