Ottawa Senators forward William Eklund is out for an extended period due to an ankle injury, head coach Travis Green told reporters Friday, including TSN's Claire Hanna.
Eklund's injury isn't expected to require surgery, and he should return sometime during the regular season, Green added.
The 23-year-old was helped off the ice Thursday after sustaining the injury on a hit by Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Simon Benoit.

Eklund has one goal and two points in four games this season.
The Senators acquired the Swede, along with prospects Kasper Halttunen and Brandon Svoboda, from the San Jose Sharks in June for the ninth overall pick in this summer's draft. Ottawa had acquired the selection from the Florida Panthers in the Brady Tkachuk blockbuster.
Eklund recorded 15 goals and 53 points in 78 contests last season with the Sharks. He has 51 goals and 165 points in 256 career games.
The Senators are also without forward Andre Burakovsky as well as defensemen Jake Sanderson and Artem Zub due to injuries.
