The Anaheim Ducks signed defenseman Tristan Luneau to a six-year extension, the team announced Thursday.
The contract carries an average annual value of $7.2 million, reports Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
Luneau, who's appeared in just 14 career NHL games, now has the largest contract in NHL history for a player of his experience, per Friedman.
"Signing Tristan to a long-term contract was a priority, as we see him as a top-four defenseman for years to come," general manager Pat Verbeek said in a statement. "Getting the deal done before the season started was a key part of our planning for now and the future."
The 22-year-old has logged two goals and two assists in his career while averaging 16:52 per contest. A right shot, he's currently slated to play on Anaheim's top defense pair alongside Jackson LaCombe this season. The Ducks' top three right-shot defensemen from last season - John Carlson, Jacob Trouba, and Radko Gudas - all departed over the offseason.
Luneau has been extremely productive in the AHL. He racked up 41 points in 70 games last season and 52 points in 59 appearances the year prior.
The Ducks drafted Luneau 53rd overall in 2022. He was widely regarded as the organization's top defense prospect.
