The Anaheim Ducks named forward Mikael Granlund as the 10th captain in franchise history on Tuesday.
Granlund is entering his second campaign in Anaheim after tallying 19 goals and 41 points in 58 games last season. The Finn has two years left on a three-year pact he signed as a free agent with the Ducks in 2025.
The 34-year-old succeeds defenseman Radko Gudas as captain. The Ducks traded Gudas' rights to the Florida Panthers in June for the rights to forward A.J. Greer. Gudas subsequently signed a six-year contract in Florida.
Granlund captained Finland at the 2026 Olympics and the 2018 and 2024 world championships.
"Mikael has been a strong leader in our locker room and with his national team over the years, and he's a natural fit with where we are as a hockey club," Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek said.
"Both our management group and coaching staff have seen how he leads by example and exemplifies how a captain carries themselves on and off the ice. He personifies the professionalism, humility, mentorship, and quiet intensity that will lead the various personalities of our group."
Anaheim also announced that Leo Carlsson, Alex Killorn, Jackson LaCombe, and Troy Terry will be alternate captains this season.
