The Dallas Stars signed forward Jason Robertson to a one-year contract worth $12 million, the team announced Tuesday.
Robertson, previously a restricted free agent, was set to have a salary arbitration hearing Saturday.
The 27-year-old is now set to become an unrestricted free agent in July 2027 and is eligible to sign a contract extension beginning Jan. 1. He's coming off a four-year pact that carried a $7.75-million cap hit and was tied to a $9.3-million qualifying offer.
Robertson led Dallas in scoring last season with 45 goals and 96 points in all 82 games. He also added five goals and eight points in six playoff contests as the Stars lost in the first round against the Minnesota Wild.
The California native paced all American players in points but wasn't named to the U.S. Olympic team.
Robertson reportedly rejected a sign-and-trade with the Seattle Kraken in June that included an eight-year contract worth around $15 million annually.
Drafted 39th overall by Dallas in 2017, Robertson has 213 goals and 490 points in 456 career games. He notched a career-high 46 goals and 109 points in 2022-23.
The Stars are projected to be $1.4 million over the salary cap after signing Robertson, according to PuckPedia.
