The New York Islanders are re-signing defenseman Tony DeAngelo to a two-year contract, the team announced Friday.
The agreement is worth $4.5 million per season, reports Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
DeAngelo would have been eligible for unrestricted free agency July 1. He joined the Islanders on a one-year, $1.75-million contract last summer.
The 30-year-old managed 35 points in 76 games while averaging just over 19 minutes per contest. DeAngelo is a strong puck-mover with quality offensive instincts, but he's put up poor defensive metrics throughout his career.
By signing DeAngelo, the Islanders have locked up the majority of their defensive corps for next season with approximately $6.2 million in cap space to spare, per PuckPedia. Carson Soucy and Adam Boqvist are both pending UFAs.
The Islanders missed out on the playoffs this spring with 91 points. The 2026-27 campaign will be their first season under head coach Pete DeBoer, who replaced Patrick Roy in a stunning move in early April.
