Dallas Stars winger Jason Robertson turned down a massive offer from the Seattle Kraken, nixing a potential sign-and-trade, sources told Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
The Kraken reportedly presented Robertson with an eight-year deal worth around $15 million annually. It would've made him the second-highest-paid player in the NHL.
Robertson, 26, is set to become a restricted free agent July 1. He and the Stars are at least $2 million per season apart in contract negotiations, according to Friedman.
The Stars had reportedly worked out a trade with the Kraken before granting them permission to talk to Robertson. The agreement would've included the Kraken's first-round pick - seventh overall - in Friday's NHL draft.
Dallas had discussions with the Toronto Maple Leafs about flipping the Kraken's No. 7 pick in a deal for forward Matthew Knies, sources told NHL insider Frank Seravalli.
The Stars are now re-engaging other teams that have expressed interest in Robertson, sources told The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun.
In addition to rejecting the Kraken, Robertson shot down the St. Louis Blues, who were willing to send multiple first-round selections to the Stars, according to Daily Faceoff's Jeff Marek.
Robertson recorded 45 goals and 51 assists last season. He added five goals and three assists in the playoffs before the Minnesota Wild eliminated the Stars in the first round.
Picked by the Stars in the second round of the 2017 draft, Robertson has tallied 213 goals, 277 assists, and 490 points in 456 career NHL games.
