Multiple NHL clubs are inquiring about trade possibilities involving Buffalo Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram, reports TSN's Darren Dreger.

The Sabres elected for salary arbitration with Byram when he was a restricted free agent last offseason, ultimately signing him to a two-year deal with a $6.25-million cap hit. He's eligible to sign an extension July 1 but can become an unrestricted free agent after the 2026-27 campaign.

The 25-year-old notched a career-high 42 points in 82 games last season, averaging 22:20 per contest. He added four goals and three assists in 13 playoff appearances.

Byram's quality production came despite him ceding No. 1 power-play duties to Rasmus Dahlin. He ranked 20th among NHL defensemen with 30 five-on-five points.

The Sabres have a surplus of left-shooting defensemen signed long term. Dahlin, Owen Power, and Mattias Samuelsson are all under contract for at least four more years.

Buffalo acquired Byram, the fourth overall selection in the 2019 draft, from the Colorado Avalanche at the 2024 deadline in exchange for Casey Mittelstadt. He battled injuries early in his career but has now played a full 82-game season in back-to-back years.
