With the win, the Hurricanes are now 6-0 in overtime in the playoffs.
"1-1 sounds a lot better than 0-2," Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal told ESPN's Scott Van Pelt. "It's a big, obviously, massive game for us. We knew we needed it. The boys rallied."
Carolina trailed 2-0 entering the third period but scored two goals in a 2:26 span to tie it up. The Golden Knights then unsuccessfully challenged for goaltender interference on a potential Ivan Barbashev goal, which resulted in a Hurricanes power play that Carolina converted to take the lead.

Vegas forced the extra frame when captain Mark Stone scored with 1:21 left in regulation.
"It was a lot," Jarvis told ESPN's Emily Kaplan regarding the chaotic third period. "We did a great job controlling our emotions. I think we never got too high, never got too low. Just kept responding. That's what I love about this group - we always bounce back."
Frederik Andersen made 23 saves in the win. Carter Hart stopped 22 of 26.
The series shifts to Vegas for Game 3 on Saturday.
