McDavid, MacKinnon shine in Canada's win over Swiss
The Canadian men's hockey team improved to 2-0 at the Olympics with a 5-1 win over Switzerland on Friday.
Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon each notched a goal and two assists. Head coach Jon Cooper moved MacKinnon up to the top line with McDavid and Macklin Celebrini in a midgame adjustment.
"We play the game similarly, you know?" McDavid said of the new partnership with MacKinnon, according to Sportsnet's Luke Fox. "So I think I have a good understanding of where he might want the puck."
Celebrini, Sidney Crosby, and Thomas Harley also found the back of the net for Canada. Pius Suter scored Switzerland's lone goal.
McDavid leads the tournament with six points in two games.
Logan Thompson made 24 saves in his Olympic debut.
Canada clinched Group A and will be one of four teams to advance straight to the quarterfinals. Canada will continue to pursue the top overall seed, which is determined by group position, points accumulated, and goal differential.
Defenseman Josh Morrissey didn't play due to an injury sustained in Canada's opening win Thursday against Czechia.
Switzerland's Kevin Fiala was stretchered off the ice late in the third period after an awkward collision with Tom Wilson.
Canada concludes group play Sunday against France.
