Capitals' Thompson injured after Slafkovsky's goal

Goaltender Logan Thompson exited the Washington Capitals' 6-3 Game 3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens in the third period with an apparent lower-body injury.

Capitals forward Dylan Strome crashed into his goaltender as Juraj Slafkovsky scored the Canadiens' fifth goal. Thompson needed help to get off the ice.

Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery had no update on Thompson, according to the Washington Post's Bailey Johnson.

Thompson missed the last seven games of the regular season with an upper-body injury but returned for Game 1. He posted a .910 save percentage and a 2.49 goals-against average in 43 games this season as he went 31-6-6 in his first campaign with the Capitals.

The 28-year-old was superb in Games 1 and 2, stopping 58 of 61 shots. Thompson allowed five goals on 35 shots in Game 3.

Charlie Lindgren replaced Thompson and made four saves on five shots. He had a .896 SV% and a 2.68 GAA in 39 regular-season games.

Canadiens starter Sam Montembeault sustained an undisclosed injury earlier in the game and was forced out.

The Capitals still lead the series 2-1.
