Avalanche's Colton out 6-8 weeks with broken foot
Colorado Avalanche forward Ross Colton will miss six-to-eight weeks with a foot fracture, head coach Jared Bednar told reporters, including the Denver Post's Corey Masisak, on Wednesday.
Forward Miles Wood is also out 7-10 days due to an upper-body injury, Bednar added.
Both players left Monday's game against the Chicago Blackhawks, which the Avalanche lost 5-2.
Colton went down after blocking a shot and left the arena in a walking boot. The 28-year-old leads the Avalanche and came into Wednesday tied for second in the NHL with eight goals in 10 contests.
He was skating on Colorado's top line alongside Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen.
The Avalanche have been severely depleted up front. They've been without captain Gabriel Landeskog and Artturi Lehkonen all season due to injuries. Jonathan Drouin hasn't played since he got hurt in the season opener, and Valeri Nichushkin was suspended for six months without pay in May and placed into Stage 3 of the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program.
Colorado lost four straight games to start the campaign but subsequently won five in a row before Monday's defeat.
