Arizona Cardinals rookie running back Jeremiyah Love will be placed on injured reserve due to a high ankle sprain that's expected to sideline him for four-to-five weeks, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
It's a different ankle sprain than the one the third overall pick was previously dealing with. Love's been bothered by ankle injuries dating back to the preseason when he sprained his right ankle. He missed two games earlier this season due to an injury to his left ankle before returning for Sunday's win against the Dallas Cowboys.
Love's production hasn't met expectations as a result - he's rushed for 3.5 yards per attempt and 268 yards through six games. He averaged 2.6 yards per attempt in Sunday's win.
Tyler Allgeier will be tasked with leading the backfield in Love's absence. Allgeier leads the team with 323 rushing yards and has averaged 4.5 yards per carry.
The Cardinals have won two of their last three to improve to 3-5. The team announced Monday that Gardner Minshew II will be Arizona's starting quarterback going forward and demoted Jacoby Brissett to third-string duties.
Arizona faces the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
