Arizona Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort publicly addressed the Marvin Harrison Jr. trade for the first time Monday, saying it was a difficult call after the team drafted him fourth overall in 2024.
"Decisions like this are never easy," Ossenfort said in a statement. "Ultimately, we have to do what is best for our football team, and that will always be the driving factor. We are extremely grateful to Marvin for what he has contributed to our organization and wish him the very best as he moves forward in his career."
Arizona will receive a 2027 second-rounder and a 2027 seventh-rounder from the Houston Texans in exchange for Harrison and a 2027 sixth-round pick. The agreement is pending a physical by Harrison.
Harrison joined the Cardinals after a decorated career at Ohio State, where he caught 155 passes for 2,613 yards and 31 touchdowns in 38 games. After a solid rookie campaign in Arizona, things have gone downhill for the young wideout over the last two seasons.
The 24-year-old caught just 41 of 73 targets for 608 yards and four scores in 12 contests last season. Harrison hauled in only five receptions through four games in 2026, and he was a healthy scratch for Week 5 as the Cardinals worked to finalize the trade.
Since the start of the 2025 campaign, Harrison ranks 49th in receiving yards and 52nd in yards per route run among 70 qualifying wideouts, according to TruMedia.
The Cardinals handed wideout Michael Wilson and tight end Trey McBride long-term extensions this offseason. They also selected running back Jeremiyah Love with the third overall pick in this year's draft, though the former Notre Dame star has recorded only 245 rushing yards on 67 attempts through five games.
Arizona hired Ossenfort as its general manager in January 2023. Since then, the team's .286 win percentage is the second-worst mark in the NFL, ahead of only the Tennessee Titans.
