New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown will be placed on injured reserve and miss at least the next four games, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Brown got injured in the third quarter of Wednesday's contest when a Seattle Seahawks defender landed on his ankle during an incomplete pass. He limped off the field and didn't return.
The injury spoiled what was a highly anticipated Patriots debut for Brown, whom New England acquired for a 2028 first-round pick in an offseason trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. He recorded only 26 yards on three catches, though he set up New England's only touchdown by drawing a defensive pass interference penalty.
Brown will be sidelined for matchups against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, and Las Vegas Raiders before he's eligible to return.
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye will have to rely on wide receivers Romeo Doubs and Mack Hollins, among others, during Brown's absence. Hollins finished as New England's leading receiver on Wednesday, while Doubs had a crucial drop and was held without a catch.
