Arizona Cardinals director of college scouting Ryan Gold is appealing his indefinite suspension for violating the NFL's gambling policy, his attorney said Sunday.
"Ryan Gold has been an outstanding NFL executive for over a decade," Gold's attorney, Mike Caspino, told ESPN's Adam Schefter. "The accusations made by the league regarding his participation in prohibited gambling activities are blatantly false. We have demanded an appeal, and we look forward to clearing his good name."
Caspino told Schefter that Gold's wife has been making $10 weekly bets on parlays and that Gold was not involved. Caspino also stated that Gold could not have provided draft pick information because only Cardinals owner Michael Bidwell and general manager Monti Ossenfort knew who has going to be selected.
The NFL announced Friday that its investigation into Gold determined he had provided confidential, non-public information regarding 2026 draft picks before they were made. The NFL didn't say who the confidential, non-public information was given to. The probe also stated that Gold placed parlay bets on NFL and college football games.
"The gambling policy, which is annually reviewed with all NFL personnel, strictly prohibits anyone in the NFL from participating in or facilitating any form of sports gambling, and from providing third parties non-public information,” the NFL said Friday in a statement. "Although there is no reason to believe the integrity of any NFL game was affected, the league takes any violation of the gambling policy with the utmost seriousness."
The Cardinals announced Friday that they "fully support" the league's decision and noted that it involved only a "single employee."
