Seahawks exercise 5th-year options for Smith-Njigba, Witherspoon
The Seattle Seahawks picked up the fifth-year options for wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and cornerback Devon Witherspoon, the team announced Friday.
Witherspoon and Smith-Njigba were selected No. 5 and No. 20 overall, respectively, in the 2023 NFL Draft. By exercising the options, both players are now under contract through the 2027 season.
Smith-Njigba's option is projected at $23.85 million, while Witherspoon's is expected to be worth approximately $21.1 million, with both deals being fully guaranteed, according to Over the Cap.
Seattle reportedly plans to negotiate contract extensions for Smith-Njigba and Witherspoon, both of whom played key roles in the club's Super Bowl LX title run. The Seahawks also exercised the fifth-year option on the rookie contract of 2022 first-round pick Charles Cross last offseason before the two sides agreed to a four-year, $104.4-million deal in January.
Smith-Njigba is fresh off the heels of an impressive 2025 campaign, leading the NFL with 1,793 receiving yards on a career-high 119 receptions to go along with 10 touchdowns. The 24-year-old also topped the league with 14.5 scrimmage yards per touch, earning Offensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-Pro honor.
Witherspoon has garnered a Pro Bowl nod in each of the past three seasons. The 25-year-old has racked up 32 passes defended and two interceptions through 43 career games.
