Bengals' Chase: 'Didn't look like we wanted it' in loss to Broncos
Wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase was frustrated by the Cincinnati Bengals' lackluster performance in Monday's 28-3 loss to the Denver Broncos.
"We go out there and lay eggs sometimes. ... We're not capitalizing on the downs when we get opportunities," Chase said postgame, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer's Dave Clark. He added, "Urgency is there. We've gotta want it. ... Today it didn't look like we wanted it."
The All-Pro wideout was held to five catches on eight targets for 23 yards. It marked the second time this season that Chase was held below 30 yards. Monday's matchup was the second start of the season for quarterback Jake Browning after Joe Burrow was placed on injured reserve due to turf toe.
The Bengals' offense couldn't generate much against Denver's defense. Cincinnati was outgained 512-159 in total yards and racked up 11 penalties. Browning completed 14 of 25 pass attempts for 125 yards and was sacked three times.
Tensions appeared to reach a boiling point in the third quarter when Chase confronted head coach Zac Taylor on the sideline. The Bengals star downplayed the interaction, saying they were "just talking about the possession" following a stalled offensive drive, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer's Shelby Dermer.

"I'm always frustrated if I'm losing, you know what I'm saying. But it's part of the game, man," Chase said, according to Clark. "Sometimes emotions take over. Sometimes it looks like what it's not supposed to."
Taylor said there's no animosity between the coach and player.
"Ja'Marr, coming off a game like this, is one of my favorite players to deal with, quite frankly, because he's just competitive," Taylor said, per the Cincinnati Enquirer's Bebe Hodges. "He just wants to win, and it comes across as emotional."
The Bengals (2-2) will look to end their two-game losing skid Sunday against the Detroit Lions (3-1).
