Report: Multiple teams have tried trading for Steelers' Watt
Multiple teams have been discussing whether they can trade for Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Interest in Watt is expected to increase following the Steelers' acquisition of Jalen Ramsey, sources added to Schefter. However, Pittsburgh has reportedly shown no willingness to deal the star pass-rusher. The Steelers prefer to get an extension done with Watt and have him finish his career with the franchise.
Watt is unhappy with his current contract and skipped the teams' mandatory minicamp.
The 30-year-old Watt has one year remaining on a four-year, $112-million extension he signed in 2021. Watt's $28 million per year average makes him the seventh-highest paid edge rusher in the NFL heading into the 2025 season.
"I'm optimistic we're going to get things done because we got two sides that want to get things done," Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said in mid-June, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "When that's going to occur ... I do not know."
Watt was selected 30th overall in the 2017 draft. He's earned four first-team All-Pro selections during his eight-year career. Watt also won the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2021.
