Steelers sign Rodgers to 1-year deal reportedly worth up to $19.5M
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to terms on a one-year, $13.65-million contract, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Rodgers' deal includes $10 million guaranteed and has a maximum value of $19.5 million. The contract also includes $5.85 million in playing time and team performance incentives.
Pittsburgh finalized the agreement with the four-time MVP after he completed his physical at the team's facility Saturday. Rodgers reportedly informed the club he would fly to Pittsburgh to sign his deal ahead of the team's mandatory minicamp that will run from June 10-12. The Steelers' newest acquisition will address the media Tuesday after the first day of minicamp practice, according to Burt Lauten, the team's senior director of communications.
The Steelers confirmed that Rodgers will wear No. 8 this upcoming season. The Cal product wore No. 12 in Green Bay but switched to his collegiate number in New York because No. 12 was retired to honor Joe Namath. Pittsburgh hasn't issued No. 12 since Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw retired after the 1983 season.
Rodgers joins his third team after spending the past two seasons with New York Jets. He passed for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions with a 63% completion rate last season after missing most of the 2023 campaign because he tore his Achilles in the season opener. The veteran passer took his time pondering his next move after being released by the Jets following the 2024 season. Rodgers will return to MetLife Stadium on Sept. 7 when the Steelers open the regular season against the Jets.
Rodgers, 41, spent 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers prior to being traded to New York in April 2023. He earned 10 Pro Bowl nods and led Green Bay to a 31-25 victory over the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV during his Packers tenure.
The addition of Rodgers provides more experience to a quarterback group that includes Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, and rookie Will Howard. The Steelers QB room looks significantly different from 2024 after Justin Fields and Russell Wilson signed elsewhere during free agency.
