Texans' Stroud: 'This offense is just getting started'
Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is excited about the potential of his offense after a 29-27 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
"If you can come out Week 1 and get a dub against a divisional opponent, it's huge," Stroud said postgame, according to team reporter Drew Dougherty. "I think everybody played well on offense. We just got to stop shooting ourselves in the foot and we'll keep rolling. Man, I think this offense is just getting started. So, I'm very excited."
Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon wasted little time in making their mark felt in their Texans debuts, as the duo combined for all three of the team's offensive scores in the win. Mixon tallied 159 yards on the ground - his best rushing performance since he ran for 165 yards in Week 12 of the 2021 season - while Diggs caught all six of his targets for 33 yards and two touchdowns.
“It’s everything for us,” head coach DeMeco Ryan said, according to Michael Marot of The Associated Press. “Those guys go out and make plays no matter what the situation is. When you can count on those guys to make plays, it’s huge for our team, not just our offense but what they did for an entire team, providing the energy they did for our team. It’s outstanding.”
Stroud posted a 24-for-32 line with 234 yards and a 115.9 passer rating. Despite the impressive showing, the signal-caller still sees room for improvement.
"We definitely did have a ton of great things, but we definitely have some things to work on. But this is Week 1. Everybody's rusty," Stroud said.
The Texans will welcome the Chicago Bears in Week 2 on Sunday Night Football.
