Rodgers, Wilson say 'passionate' camp exchanges are constructive
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers downplayed an exchange at training camp in which he appeared to be arguing with receiver Garrett Wilson.
"There's often appearance versus reality in life and on the football field. What it appears to be might not always be what the reality actually is. ... We're just passionately talking about the details," Rodgers told reporters Wednesday.
The two were seen animated with one another on the field Tuesday, which followed a similar scene from a few days earlier.
"(Wilson) and I have a great relationship," Rodgers said. " ... I love those conversations. It's about the details, it's about winning, it's about seeing what he sees. He's gotta get on my page, but I gotta get on his page, too."
Wilson has been highly productive in his first two NFL seasons, eclipsing 1,000 yards in both campaigns. He's totaled 2,145 yards and seven touchdowns in 34 career contests since being selected 10th overall in 2022. Wilson has produced 29% of New York's receiving yardage during that stretch.
"We're both passionate guys … it's just a conversation. We're both like-minded. We're trying to figure out how to attack the defense," Wilson said, per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, adding, "We're getting better. We're gaining an understanding of each other. It's truly enlightening for me every time we have convos like that."
Rodgers, 40, is looking to bring stability to the Jets quarterback room after tearing his Achilles four snaps into his Jets tenure last season. New York hasn't had a 3,000-yard passer since Sam Darnold in 2019.
