San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch likes what he's seen from Brock Purdy as the quarterback rehabs from elbow surgery.

"He's had one (throwing) session thus far, and we're incredibly encouraged by that," Lynch said Wednesday, according to Cam Inman of the Mercury News. "He's hitting all his marks, and that doesn't surprise us because he's putting in all the work."

He added: "(The) early returns are really good."

Purdy suffered a complete tear of the UCL in his throwing elbow during the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Jan. 29. It remains unclear if he'll be available for Week 1. The 23-year-old presumably resumed throwing Tuesday for the first time since sustaining the injury, according to Inman.

"The hope is he's ready for training camp. The hope is he's ready for the regular season," Lynch said.

Purdy, the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, began last season as San Francisco's third-string quarterback but became the starter after injuries sidelined Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo throughout the campaign. Purdy led the team to a 5-0 record in five regular-season starts.

The 49ers, who have since seen Garoppolo sign with the Las Vegas Raiders, added quarterback Sam Darnold earlier this offseason.

"We feel good about that position holistically," Lynch said of San Francisco's quarterback depth. "We are not going to put Brock in a situation where he's not fully healed. That means not just get back, but get back and get in reps under your belt."
