The New York Jets may be closing in on their next head coach.

New York is focused on Robert Saleh, and the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator is considered the frontrunner to land the job, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.

Saleh is set to meet with the Jets' brass for a second time on Wednesday, and the club could try to pounce on the 49ers assistant soon since his services are in demand from other teams, Cimini adds.

Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and Buffalo Bills OC Brian Daboll are two other candidates the franchise is considering. Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson appears to be a fallback option at this point, according to Cimini.

New York fired Adam Gase following a disappointing 2020 campaign and has since interviewed several candidates for the position.

Saleh has led San Francisco's defense for the last four seasons, consistently fielding strong units. The 41-year-old was a key part of the Niners' Super Bowl run last year.
