NCAA denies Ole Miss' appeal for Chambliss' 6th-year waiver

The NCAA denied Ole Miss' appeal for quarterback Trinidad Chambliss' sixth-year waiver, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Ole Miss released a statement Wednesday disagreeing with the NCAA's decision.

"(Chambliss' representatives) will continue to pursue all available legal remedies, and we will publicly stand behind Trinidad while holding the NCAA accountable for a decision that fails to align with its own rules, precedent, and the documented medical record," the Rebels announced, according to Thamel.

Chambliss is seeking a medical redshirt year, citing that he missed his second season at Ferris State due to persistent respiratory issues. However, the NCAA refutes that claim.

The NCAA originally denied Chambliss' waiver request for an extra year on Jan. 9, but the Rebels appealed the decision.

Without an extra year of eligibility, Chambliss will presumably enter the 2026 NFL Draft and join a thin quarterback class headlined by Indiana's Fernando Mendoza.

Chambliss helped Ole Miss reach the College Football Playoff semifinal this past season by throwing for 3,937 yards and 22 touchdowns against only three interceptions. He also rushed for 527 yards and eight TDs.
