Iowa State hires Rogers from Washington State as head coach

Washington State head coach Jimmy Rogers will replace Matt Campbell as Iowa State's next coach, the Cyclones announced Friday.

"Jimmy Rodgers is a rising star in college athletics who has very strong ties to the Midwest both as a player and as a coach," athletic director Jamie Pollard said in a statement. "He has been on my shortlist ever since the first time I met him. He immediately impressed me with his interest in Iowa State university and told me during our first visit several years ago that he wanted to be the next head coach at Iowa State."

Rogers comes to Iowa State on a six-year contract. He was in his first year coaching Washington State, which holds a 6-6 record.

He coached South Dakota State from 2023 to 2024 before joining the Cougars. Rogers led the Jackrabbits to great success during his two-season tenure, compiling a 27-3 overall record and winning the FCS championship in 2023.

Rogers also served as defensive coordinator during his time at South Dakota State.

Iowa State needed a new head coach after Campbell reportedly accepted the Penn State opening on an eight-year deal. Campbell posted a 72-55 record with the Cyclones over 10 seasons.

Iowa State holds an 8-4 record in 2025.
