Kansas State's Klieman retires, to reportedly be replaced by A&M's Klein

Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman announced his retirement from football Wednesday after seven seasons in the position.

The school is expected to hire Texas A&M offensive coordinator Collin Klein as his replacement, reports The Manhattan Mercury's Ned Seaton.

Klein has discussed the potential transition from Texas A&M to Kansas State with school officials, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel, and intends to stay with the Aggies through their College Football Playoff run.

Klieman compiled a 54-34 record with the Wildcats, including a 6-6 mark this season. He's expected to remain at Kansas State through its bowl game.

The 58-year-old arrived at Kansas State following Bill Snyder's second retirement at the end of the 2018 season. Klieman previously led North Dakota State to four FCS championships in five seasons.

The Wildcats qualified for a bowl game in five of Klieman's seven seasons, including each of the past four.

Klein will return to his alma mater, where he led the Wildcats to a Big 12 title as a quarterback in 2003. He helped Texas A&M's offense become one of the more prolific units in the country in 2025. The Aggies are averaging over 36 points and 454.4 yards per game this season.
