Report: Ohio State promoting Hartline to OC

Ohio State plans to name Brian Hartline as its offensive coordinator, sources told CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz.

Hartline will replace Chip Kelly, who joined the Las Vegas Raiders after the Buckeyes' CFP title run.

The 38-year-old Hartline has served as Ohio State's wide receivers coach for over eight seasons. He was named the co-offensive coordinator prior to the 2024 campaign.

Hartline is expected to assume offensive play-calling duties, a source told ESPN's Adam Rittenberg. Head coach Ryan Day relinquished that role to Kelly last season.

Hartline has helped develop some elite receivers while with the Buckeyes, including Garrett Wilson, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Chris Olave, as well as soon-to-be sophomore Jeremiah Smith.

The Buckeyes are expected to hire Virginia Tech offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen to replace Justin Frye as their offensive line coach, The Athletic's Bruce Feldman reports. Ohio State still needs a new defensive coordinator after Jim Knowles joined Penn State.
